Genetic Passport
The genetic passport is a queen's complete digital identity: pedigree, performance records, breeding values, and reliability. It is the reference document for breeding decisions and exchanges between breeders.
Passport Contents
Identification
- Queen name and serial number
- Race (Mellifera, Buckfast, Carnica...)
- Birth year
- Breeder code (e.g., FR-44-001)
- Insemination type: SDI (Single Drone Insemination) or MDI (Multiple Drone Insemination)
Pedigree
The pedigree tree can be viewed over 3, 5, or 7 generations. It shows:
- The dam (mother) and the sire group (drone fathers)
- Maternal and paternal ancestors
- Links to reference queens (Index BeePass)
Every node in the pedigree tree is clickable: click on an ancestor to go directly to her detail page.
Performance
Field evaluations carried out by testers on F1 daughters:
- Honey production (kg)
- Gentleness, vigor, wintering, non-swarming, comb stability (scores 1-4)
- Pin Test hygiene: HYG 6h and HYG 24h (cells cleaned out of 50)
Breeding Values
The 8 normalised EBV (mean = 100, standard deviation = 10) with their respective reliability r². Values come from the latest successful genetic evaluation run.
QR Code
A physical QR code links a queen to her digital passport. Scan it to access the public profile directly.
Sharing
The passport is publicly accessible via the Index BeePass: any breeder can view reference queen profiles, compare EBV, and trace pedigrees.
The sharing URL is stable and can be included in partner communications, catalogues, or social media.
Data Sovereignty
BeePass guarantees your sovereignty over your genetic data:
- Export — Export your data at any time
- Deletion — Delete your account and data (GDPR compliant)
- European hosting — Data stored in Europe (Hetzner, Germany)
- No lock-in — Your data belongs to you, not the platform
The genetic passport is BeePass's founding vision: giving every beekeeper genetic sovereignty over their stock, with selection tools previously reserved for large institutional programmes.
