Definitions of technical terms used in the BeePass platform.
Breeding & Genetics

| F0 | Inseminated breeder queen, the foundation of the breeding programme |
| F1 | Daughter of an F0, intended for production or field evaluation |
| SDI | Single Drone Insemination — insemination with a single drone |
| MDI | Multiple Drone Insemination — insemination with multiple drones |
| EBV | Estimated Breeding Value — the estimated genetic merit of an individual for a given trait |
| BLUP | Best Linear Unbiased Prediction — the gold-standard statistical method for estimating breeding values |
| Reliability (r²) | Accuracy of the EBV estimate, from 0 % (no information) to 100 % (certainty) |
| A⁻¹ | Inverse of the additive genetic relationship matrix, used in the BLUP model |
| Sire-group | Group of drones used for the insemination of a queen |
| Pedigree | Family tree of a queen (dam, sire, grandparents) |
| Inbreeding (F) | Coefficient measuring relatedness between an individual's ancestors (0 = not inbred) |
Evaluation Traits

| Gentleness | Non-aggressive behaviour of the colony during inspections (1-4) |
| Comb behaviour | Ability of bees to stay on the frame during inspection (1-4) |
| Swarming | Tendency of the colony to divide naturally (1-4, 1 = high tendency) |
| HYG | Hygienic test (Pin Test, 50 cells) — ability to clean dead brood |
| Varroa | Infestation by the mite Varroa destructor, measured in % |
| Overwintering | Survival and condition of the colony at the end of winter (1-4) |
| Spring development | Speed of colony growth in spring (1-4) |

| Selection group | Organisation bringing together several breeders and testers |
| Breeder code | Unique identifier for a breeder (e.g. FR-001) |
| BeeMatch | Mating recommendation system based on genetic complementarity |
